The spring 2014 season is right around the corner.  There are so many great series this upcoming season but unfortunately we can only put 10 of them in our Top 10 Must Watch Anime of the Spring 2014 season.

The list is not in any specific order.
Break Blade
Air Date: April 6, 2014
Episodes: 12
Genre: Mecha, Shounen, Fantasy Action
Director: Amino Tetsuro
Studio: Production I.G.,  Xebec
For those who don’t know, Break Blade was animated before, but as a 6 part movie.  This will be the fist time that Break will get a TV anime adaptation.  Is the TV series continuing after the movie?  After watching the trailer for the TV anime, it probably isn’t.  The trailer shows us that Rygart, main character, activated the ancient robot which he pilots so it looks like they are rebooting the anime series (not confirmed though).

In the continent of Cruzon, there is a war between the Kingdom of Krisna and the nation of Athens.  The people of the land are able to use a magic called quartz.  It allows them to do anything they want such as repair, cook, and of course pilot giant robots called “Golems”.  Rygart Arrow is an “un-sorcerer”,  one who can’t use quartz.  Even though Rygart isn’t able to use quartz he was able to awaken an ancient Golem.  Rygart now joins the Krisna army and fights against the nation of Athens.

For those who enjoyed Elfen Lied this is something you should pick up.  The series is from the same creator as Elfen Lied.  Like Elfen Lied, the series has a dark story but it isn’t as gruesome.  The series also has a lot of moments where it can make you laugh.

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei

Episodes: 26
Genre: Romance, Sci-Fi, Shounen, Super Natural

The world is set where magic exists and has been utilized by technology for nearly a century.  Rather than casting spells like traditional spell casting, mages use a “Casting Assistant Device” better known as CAD.  Mages infuse the CAD with psions or thought particles while the CAD itself provides an activation sequence, which is then used to construct a magic ritual in order to invoke the magic.

The year is 2095, Shiba Tatsuya and his sister Miyuki are new students enrolling at the Private Magic University Affiliated High School. Students are ranked according to their test scores: students with the best grades are designated “Blooms” and enrolled in the Course 1 curriculum, while those with poor scores are designated “Weeds” and enrolled in Course 2.  Miyuki topped the entrance exams and is selected to be the first years’ representative, while Tatsuya is placed in Course 2 due to his low practical test score, despite scoring the highest in the written portion of the exams.

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei is the most anticipated anime of the Spring 2014 season.  The light novel has ranked in the top 10 in both Top-Selling Light Novels 2012 and 2013.  The series also has a manga adaptation in Square Enix’s GanGan Fantasy, which is still ongoing.  It also has multiple manga spin-off series which discuss the stories of the supporting characters.  The series is also getting a game adaptation.

The anime cast is very huge.  If we were to give this cast a Letter Rank it would probably be Rank S.  Nakamura Yuuichi (Shiba Tatsuya), Hayami Saori (Shiba Miyuki), Matsuoka Yoshitsugu (Ichijou Masaki), Sugita Tomokazu (Kirihara Takeaki) Tomatsu Haruka (Mibu Sayaka), Hanazawa Kana (Saegusa Mayumi) and many more.  Both opening and ending song will be performed by two amazing artists.  LiSA (Angel Beats!, SAO) and ELISA (Kaminomi, ef).

Black Bullet

In the year 2021, mankind was decimated by the epidemic of Gastrea, a parasitical virus, and is forced to live within Monoliths, which are created from Varanium: a metal that is able to subdue Gastrea.  Soon, the “Cursed Children”, children born with the Gastrea virus who are able to control it, which gives them superhuman abilities, are discovered.  Due to the Gastrea virus’ intervention, the Cursed Children could only be female.  Civil Securities are formed to specialize fighting against Gastrea, operating with the pair of an Initiator, who are cursed children, and a Promoter, serving to lead the cursed children. Ten years after the epidemic, Satomi Rentaro, a high school student who is also a Promoter in his childhood friend Tendo Kisara’s Tendo Civil Security, along with his Initiator Enju Aihara, receives a secret mission to prevent the Tokyo Area’s destruction.

Like Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, the cast for Black Bullet is very huge.  Kaji Yuuki, 2-time, Seiyuu Best Male Lead Role winner, will be voicing Satomi Rentaro while the young Hidaka Rina and veteran Horie Yui support him as the series’ main heroines.  Fan favorites such as Koyama Rikiya, Toyosaki Aki, Yuuki Aoi, and Han Megumi will also join the cast as supporting roles.

Mushishi Zoku Shou
Air Date: April 5, 2014
Episodes: 12
Genre: Seinen, Fantasy
Director: Nagahama Hiroshi
Studio: Artland

“Mushi”: the most basic forms of life in the world.  They exist without any goals or purposes aside from simply “being.”  They are beyond the shackles of the words “good” and “evil.”  Mushi can exist in countless forms and are capable of mimicking things from the natural world such as plants, diseases, and even phenomena like rainbows.

This is, however, just a vague definition of these entities that inhabit the vibrant world of Mushishi, as to even call them a form of life would be an oversimplification.  Detailed information on Mushi is scarce because the majority of humans are unaware of their existence.  Ginko chases rumors of occurrences that could be tied to Mushi, all for the sake of finding an answer.

After 9 long years, Mushishi finally gets a 2nd season.  It is one of the most beautiful and original series to ever be animated.  The stories in Mushishi have great life lessons that viewers can learn from.   The scenery for the first series is probably the most breath-taking and beautiful, if not the most beautiful, I’ve ever seen.  Mushishi is extremely underrated. We can assure you that this one won’t disappoint.

Mangaka-san to Assistant-san to
Air Date: April 8, 2014

The story depicts the work-life of a perverted mangaka, Aito Yuuki and his assistant, Ashisu Sahoto. Constantly pressured by his editor and lacking experience with girls, Aito asks Ashisu to act as a reference.

From the creator of Doujin Work comes another comedy about being a mangaka.  You can probably say that it is a typical harem anime but we can guarantee you that this one will make you laugh.  It’s unfortunate that each episode is only 13 minutes.

Captain Earth
